The tribe

is an extremely distinctive tribe that may be diagnosed by the following combination of characters: (1) Parameres distinctive, with a long apical lobe adorned with scabrous to serrate sculpture and paramerite vellum located at the apex of a production (in
<emphasis id="0CCCEAAFFFAFFF90F4C2FA0DBF9CFA03" box="[1004,1157,1441,1465]" italics="true" pageId="1" pageNumber="394">Sinanarchusa</emphasis>
the paramere is further modified into a simple, broad-lamellate structure covered almost entirely in scabrous sculpturing similar to those found on the apical lobes of

species agree well with that of

The elusive tribe

is turning out to be a phylogenetically difficult tribe to reconcile. Adult morphology, larval morphology, multi-gene molecular analyses, and independent gene trees all conflict in some way, making
<taxonomicName id="F9B84D3EFFAFFF90F603F8D8BAB3F837" box="[301,426,1908,1933]" class="Insecta" family="Staphylinidae" kingdom="Animalia" order="Coleoptera" pageId="1" pageNumber="394" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="tribe" tribe="Himalusini">Himalusini</taxonomicName>
an interesting challenge within the aleocharine tree of life.

Adult morphology, especially the overall similarity in the mouthparts and aedeagus suggests common ancestry with
<taxonomicName id="F9B84D3EFFAFFF90F7FCF810BA20F86F" box="[210,313,1980,2005]" class="Insecta" family="Staphylinidae" kingdom="Animalia" order="Coleoptera" pageId="1" pageNumber="394" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="tribe" tribe="Placusini">Placusini</taxonomicName>
Mulsant and Rey, 1871, and possibly
<taxonomicName id="F9B84D3EFFAFFF90F5DBF810BF00F86F" authority="Casey, 1910" authorityName="Casey" authorityYear="1910" box="[757,1049,1980,2005]" class="Insecta" family="Staphylinidae" kingdom="Animalia" order="Coleoptera" pageId="1" pageNumber="394" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="tribe" tribe="Hoplandriini">Hoplandriini Casey, 1910</taxonomicName>
(Eldredge in prep.). On the other hand, the larval morphology for
