Note. In the Dufour collection (MHNP) are two groups of specimens with

labels, one with two damaged workers from Gizeh and a second with one damaged male (with dissected genitalia in an attached vial on the same pin) and one worker from North Africa. The workers belong to the

species-group. Since the male genitalia seem to show the characters of the greatest phylogenetic significance the male is chosen as lectotype.

Billen (1989) used
<taxonomicName id="C56D55C7A62E37B8CB159C6ED76C07C7" authorityName=", Billen" authorityYear="1989" class="Insecta" family="Formicidae" genus="Cataglyphis" kingdom="Animalia" order="Hymenoptera" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="savignyi">savignyi</taxonomicName>
as a specific name in a publication on morphology of the cloacal gland without further explanation. A final placement of the voucher specimen is difficult as the range of variation of all the species of the
<taxonomicName id="CF11AA920B2206BB77F0E0AA88F80DE8" class="Insecta" family="Formicidae" genus="Cataglyphis" kingdom="Animalia" order="Hymenoptera" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="bicolor">bicolor</taxonomicName>
species-group is not known yet. The analysis of the chemical compounds of the
<normalizedToken id="C52B7D9347B0E58D3F2E3AE820923682" originalValue="Dufours">Dufour's</normalizedToken>
gland shows a different pattern from those of
<taxonomicName id="8D30D461B46391A72303A66776773A8D" authorityName=", Collingwood" authorityYear="1985" class="Insecta" family="Formicidae" genus="Cataglyphis" kingdom="Animalia" order="Hymenoptera" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="niger">niger</taxonomicName>
and an as yet unidentified species of the
<taxonomicName id="7CEB62061B09B37C349D317F4C5ADE39" authorityName=", Arnoldi, 1964:" authorityYear="1802" class="Insecta" family="Formicidae" genus="Cataglyphis" kingdom="Animalia" order="Hymenoptera" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="nodus">nodus</taxonomicName>
complex (Morgan et al., personal communication).
