Canu &amp; Bassler (1928a) described this species from 30 fms in the Gulf of

. They claimed to have found another Recent species in the
<collectingCountry id="E988DCA8205FFFFAB957F8F2FD57F8F0" box="[613,739,1892,1917]" name="Philippines" pageId="74" pageNumber="75">Philippines</collectingCountry>
and believed the genus to belong to a group that was abundant in the Cretaceous and Tertiary. Osburn (1940) included
