The species is named after the shape of the posterior parapodia which resemble butterfly wings.

<paragraph id="8BCD36C03B59E717FF2DF88D3193E71D" blockId="11.[151,1437,1525,1991]" pageId="11" pageNumber="62">Diagnosis. The species can be recognized by prominent, almost foliose dorsal and ventral cirri in its posterior parapodia, distinctly rounded prostomial lobes and a rather smooth to irregularly wrinkled body surface.</paragraph>
