.Du sable est contenu dans l’ensemble des colonies, moins dense dans la partie dressée en lobes. Les ouvertures buccales des zoïdes en surface ont 6 lobes saillants qui contiennent aussi des particules sédimentaires fines. La tunique est vitreuse et contient des cellules vacuolaires qui donnent aux colonies une consistance spongieuse.Les zoïdes occupent toute l’épaisseur des colonies, mais seuls ceux qui se trouvent dans les lobes dressés ont leurs siphons ouverts à l’extérieur. Les particules de sable sont arrangées de façon radiaire en surface autour des orifices des siphons buccaux disposés en cercles, ce qui donne un aspect étoilé
