briefly summarised from Unruh (2008). Antennae 9 to 11 segmented. Labium 3-segmented, with spatulate setae on apex. Legs well developed; each trochanter with 4 campaniform sensillum on each side and a long trochanteral seta. Thoracic spiracles with elongate peritremes, sometimes surrounded by multilocular pores; spiracular atria without pores. Vulvar opening surrounded by setae and multilocular pores, each with a trilocular centre and 10–16 outer loculi. Cicatrices usually 1 or 3 located posterior of vulva. Ovisac band present or absent. Internal marsupium present or absent. Abdominal spiracles in 3 pairs; atria without pores. Anal opening dorsal, with 2 lateral apodemes, surrounded by pores and setae identical to those around vulvar opening. Hair-like and flagellate setae scattered on dorsum and venter. Hairlike setae medially to submedially on head and thorax, marginally and submarginally on venter of abdomen. Multilocular pores, each with a bilocular or trilocular centre and 6–12 outer loculi distributed throughout on dorsum and venter. Some Neotropical species with multilocular pores with a cruciform or star-shaped centre and 6–8 outer loculi forming marginal clusters on head and thorax.
