The FO is longer than the V (FO/V range 2.0-2.3). The VD is thin along its whole course except for the proximal part where it is larger in diameter. The FDBC is longer than the BC+SDBC (FDBC/BC+SDBC range 1.5-1.7). The BC+SDBC is club-like to cylindrical and slightly longer than the V (BC+SDBC/V range 1.2-1.5), with no clear distinction between the SDBC and the BC. The apex is big and rounded. The D is slightly longer than the V (D/V range 1.7-1.9) and slightly longer that the BC+SDBC (D/BC+SDBC range 1.1-1.5), thinner than the BC+SDBC and with a small and round apex. The V is big and cylindrical. The A is large and long. The PC is longer than the V (P+E/V range 2.9-3.4). The PR is very short and robust. The ET is clearly visible. The A shows few fleshy weak irregular folds. The P presents a set of transverse smooth pleats. The pleats are slightly irregular and tend to fade towards the A. The penial wall is smooth. The PP is big, elongated and markedly wrinkled with a pointed apex. It originates from one transverse epiphallar ring. The E shows two main fringed pleats that run as far as the VD. The V shows a weak irregular pattern of smooth pleats.

Young branches, petioles, primary, secondary and tertiary veins on abaxial leaf surface, adaxial leaf surface, hypanthium and calyx (for the latter two, see below) moderately to densely covered with red trichomes 1.5-5 mm long, filiform, unbranched, erect but sometimes with a curved apex (mostly on the leaves), sometimes gland-tipped (mostly on inflorescences and hypanthia, but sometimes on the leaves and branches too); upper portions of young branches and inflorescences, more precisely above the insertion of leaves/bracts usually with dense tufts of trichomes smaller and slenderer than the ones elsewhere on the plant, these trichomes 0.4-0.8 mm long; throughout the plant there are also sparse, short, reddish glandular projections, up to 0.1 mm long, elongate. Leaves opposite, equal to subequal in each pair, lacking ant-domatia; petioles 6-15 mm long; blades 3.8-13

known to us. Most of the specimens are in fruit and this is presumably why it remained undescribed until now. The elliptic-lanceolate to elliptic leaves with the only pair of secondaries very close to the margin resembles some species of
<taxonomicName class="Magnoliopsida" family="Melastomataceae" genus="Macairea" higherTaxonomySource="GBIF,CoL" kingdom="Plantae" lsidName="Macairea" order="Myrtales" pageId="5" pageNumber="36" phylum="Tracheophyta" rank="genus">

DC., an unrelated group with capsular fruits in the Marcetia clade (see Michelangeli 2013), but the leaf surface and indument are different. The shrubby habit and abundant red trichomes on the leaves and young stems resemble some species of
