a fleshy bivalved capsule, the valves green abaxially, dark maroon adaxially, at dehiscence reflexed 180°, revealing a central cone of fleshy, dark red funicular tissue covered by a thin, purple endocarp that remains attached and surrounds the placentae and mass of funiculi and seeds, and then dehisces at a later stage.
