described the variety at the end of the paragraph describing the new species. The Latin version of the species description begins with “[g]reen or yellow”. The variety is distinguished in the English paragraph by being luteus with black marks and luteus basal venation in the fore wings. Green generally fades to yellow in cicadas after death. The amount of time varies but the lack of any structural differences and the fact that both specimens were collected in “Rio Janiero” suggests the observed color differences are simply due to fading of the original green in what
