notes. The identity and status of this subfossil taxon, described from phaseoline silt, are somewhat uncertain. The holotype illustrated in
<bibRefCitation author="Kantor, YuI" journalOrPublisher="KMK Scientific Press, Moscow" pageId="76" pageNumber="107" title="Morskiye i solonovatovodnyye bryukhonogiye mollyuski Rossii i sopredel'nykh stran: illyustrirovannyy katalog." year="2006">Kantor and Sysoev (2006)</bibRefCitation>
is poorly preserved and does not allow a proper assessment of its validity. The general shape and size are indicative of the genus
<taxonomicName class="Gastropoda" family="Hydrobiidae" genus="Caspia" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Caspia" order="Littorinimorpha" pageId="35" pageNumber="66" phylum="Mollusca" rank="genus">Caspia</taxonomicName>
and it looks like a variety that might even be a synonym of
<taxonomicName lsidName="C. baerii" pageId="35" pageNumber="66" rank="species" species="baerii">C. baerii</taxonomicName>
. Furthermore, we are not entirely certain as to the stratigraphic age of the stratigraphic origin of this species. The phaseoline silt is a marine Holocene unit, yet it contains reworked Late Pleistocene Neoeuxinian (Pontocaspian) species (FW, pers. obs.).
