This species was described from The

. The females are particularly similar in colour to
<taxonomicName id="4C30F5CF08279428FB0A4740581BFEC9" box="[1266,1387,332,357]" class="Insecta" family="Thripidae" genus="Stenchaetothrips" higherTaxonomySource="GBIF" kingdom="Animalia" order="Thysanoptera" pageId="8" pageNumber="500" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="biformis">
<emphasis id="B944525E08279428FB0A4740581BFEC9" box="[1266,1387,332,357]" italics="true" pageId="8" pageNumber="500">S. biformis</emphasis>
</taxonomicName>
, the rice thrips, but have a mesothoracic spinula, and tergite IX bears two pairs of campaniform sensilla. The original description refers to a “few, weak, dentate microtrichia laterally” on the posterior margins of tergites VI and VII. Three such dentate microtrichia are clearly present on tergite VI (but not VII) of the
<typeStatus id="548B30EE08279428FB9F47B559BAFE7C" box="[1127,1226,440,464]" pageId="8" pageNumber="500" type="paratype">paratype</typeStatus>
, however they are represented by insignificant craspedal lobes on both VI or VII in the
<typeStatus id="548B30EE08279428FC6A47D15E88FE59" box="[914,1016,476,501]" pageId="8" pageNumber="500" type="holotype">holotype</typeStatus>
. As indicated by

, there remains a possibility that

, but the three original specimens of the latter species are not available. The three species of
