In these fish the smaller number of scales does not represent a shorter scaled predorsum. The fourth scale is replaced by a larger body scale that reaches over to the other side of the back. The number and arrangement of the teeth on the palatines is variable between specimens and sometimes on both sides of the same fish. Individuals
