The original description included eight varieties indicated as "var. a" to "var. h.", based on samples from various localities sampled by H. Cuming and cites an illustration in "Thesaurus Conchyliorum part 3, pl. 30, fig. 208". This illustration matches the specimens in Cuming collection labelled as "var. a". Therefore we believe this implies that "var. a" is the type series of
