In his description of
<taxonomicName lsidName="C. kahakai" pageId="5" pageNumber="102" rank="species" species="kahakai">C. kahakai</taxonomicName>
, Asquith (1993) did not provide a subgeneric placement within
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Miridae" genus="Cyrtopeltis" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Cyrtopeltis" order="Hemiptera" pageId="5" pageNumber="102" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Cyrtopeltis</taxonomicName>
or otherwise discuss his generic assignment. In the assessment of the author,
<taxonomicName lsidName="C. kahakai" pageId="5" pageNumber="102" rank="species" species="kahakai">C. kahakai</taxonomicName>
is clearly congeneric with the remainder of the endemic Hawaiian dicyphine radiation, all other members of which were assigned to the genus
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Miridae" genus="Engytatus" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Engytatus" order="Hemiptera" pageId="5" pageNumber="102" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Engytatus</taxonomicName>
when the latter group was elevated from subgeneric to generic status by
