Two males were found in late June on a windowsill in the laboratory of the Zoological Museum during for two successive years. We assume that a population of the species exists on its host plant, a fir tree (
<taxonomicName id="EB6F428EA17A8A02ECAA05746962CDE6" class="Pinopsida" family="Pinaceae" genus="Picea" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Plantae" lsidName="Picea abies" order="Pinales" pageId="6" pageNumber="11" phylum="Tracheophyta" rank="species" species="abies">Picea abies</taxonomicName>
(L.) Karst. (
<taxonomicName id="C22031C00E798FBCE52297FA0A899D06" family="Pinaceae" lsidName="" pageId="6" pageNumber="11" rank="family">Pinaceae</taxonomicName>
) growing in the yard about 20 m away from the window.
<taxonomicName id="1FCA9E81BD6A84DB77D885469CF756CD" lsidName="Ch. electella" pageId="6" pageNumber="11" rank="species" species="electella">Ch. electella</taxonomicName>
inhabits coniferous forests within the range of fir trees in western Ukraine. However, the species has also been recorded in artificial plantations (mainly in parks) of
<taxonomicName id="BAC5DAF52D29927BEF526E1EDF438492" class="Pinopsida" family="Pinaceae" genus="Picea" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Plantae" lsidName="Picea abies" order="Pinales" pageId="6" pageNumber="11" phylum="Tracheophyta" rank="species" species="abies">Picea abies</taxonomicName>
in the forest zone in northern Ukraine (
<bibRefCitation id="2C21DD3A644864059AD8F887DDD9F5A9" pageId="6" pageNumber="11">Gershenzon 1988</bibRefCitation>
). Our record confirms that
<taxonomicName id="2EDEE5E251A300993C42ECE7FB79564F" lsidName="Ch. electella" pageId="6" pageNumber="11" rank="species" species="electella">Ch. electella</taxonomicName>
is broadly distributed outside of the range of its host plant and may exist on single trees growing in isolation in urban habitats. This is similarly true for another gelechiid species,
<taxonomicName id="BA9D49086329316805921EC7483EF6F5" class="Insecta" family="Gelechiidae" genus="Dichomeris" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Dichomeris latipennella" order="Lepidoptera" pageId="6" pageNumber="11" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="latipennella">Dichomeris latipennella</taxonomicName>
(Rebel, 1937), which has also been recorded from Kiev based on a single specimen bred from fir cones gathered under a single tree (
<bibRefCitation id="9ED2B2C0A9021361532B1D4AE3793A4D" pageId="6" pageNumber="11">Bidzilya et al. 2011</bibRefCitation>
).
