Head—body 245 mm, tail 340 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. Vieiras Tree-rat is small-sized, with dark brown back and nearly indistinct but dull brown sides, covered with flat spines on mid-back but not on rump, and overall with stiff bristled fur. Head has dark maroon medial stripe from crown to rostrum—a distinct feature compared with the geographically adjacent White-faced Tree-rat (

). Under parts of Vieiras Tree-rat are light brown. Tail is 139% of head-body length and densely haired from base to tip. As in congeners, tail is longitudinally bicolored, with basal one-third glossy black and distal two-thirds white. Ears are short and covered by hairs of head. Hindfeet are broad, with powerful claws on each toe.
