Blind snakes have vestigial eyes and lack enlarged ventral and subcaudal scales in most species. This species has 20-20-18 scale rows. The snout is white, and the tail has a white band which may be broken into one or more spots. The tail is very short and ends in a spine. The belly is pale and only the 9 dorsal-most rows of scales are pigmented.
