The species was so far only known from the

collection from

. A report from
<collectingCountry id="F36F57924B4AFFD41F29E657FE397D4B" box="[302,493,1564,1589]" name="United Kingdom" pageId="3" pageNumber="234">United Kingdom</collectingCountry>
is misidentified (see below), as is a report from Asia (
<collectingCountry id="F36F57924B4AFFD41A58E657FB717D4B" box="[1119,1189,1564,1589]" name="China" pageId="3" pageNumber="234">China</collectingCountry>
) which deviates in 64- spored asci and will be assigned to a closely related separate species (Baral
<emphasis id="B90CCB104B4AFFD41DD1E60BFBDA7D27" box="[982,1038,1600,1625]" italics="true" pageId="3" pageNumber="234">et al.</emphasis>
in prep.). However,

</taxonomicName>
is in fact a frequent species which has been overlooked due to its restriction to xeric wood or rarely bark of various woody angio- and gymnosperms. It occurs all over Europe and also in North America and central Asia (Baral
<emphasis id="B90CCB104B4AFFD41B01E6C3FAEB7DDF" box="[1286,1343,1672,1697]" italics="true" pageId="3" pageNumber="234">et al.</emphasis>
in prep.). Occurring all year round (Baral
<emphasis id="B90CCB104B4AFFD41FEBE6E7FDF07DBB" box="[492,548,1708,1733]" italics="true" pageId="3" pageNumber="234">et al.</emphasis>
in prep.). This species was found in Macaronesia above
<quantity id="4C80BAE74B4AFFD41A90E6E7FB3F7DBB" box="[1175,1259,1708,1733]" metricMagnitude="3" metricUnit="m" metricValue="2.0" pageId="3" pageNumber="234" unit="m" value="2000.0">2000 m</quantity>
in spring season. It grows on the two most common substrates of meso-oromediterranean summit broom scrub (
