La zona alpina del Passo del Forno (

Scarse le osservazioni ecologiche di

), dove rodevano la parte più interna della corolla con una certa insistenza, immersi fino a metà del corpo tra gli stami. In alcuni punti gli insetti avevano eroso il bordo dei petali bianchi, iniziando dalla parte interna del petalo verso lesterno. Le osservazioni sono state rilevate una giornata soleggiata a mattino inoltrato con una temperatura di 14°C allombra.

Questa specie di Elateride ha una colorazione molto variabile. Sono state indicate, infatti, diverse varietà cromatiche legate al sesso; nei maschi, per esempio, si può presentare la varietà
<emphasis id="B962EA84FF8DFFC2568DF9C07FA8F948" box="[392,472,1649,1675]" italics="true" pageId="1" pageNumber="172">tibialis</emphasis>
(indicata da Castelnau nel 1840), con capo, pronoto ed elitre neri, con eccezione delle epipleure tendenti al rossastro; nelle femmine si può presentare, per esempio, la varietà
<emphasis id="B962EA84FF8EFFC15529FA327CB5FA5E" box="[556,709,1411,1437]" italics="true" pageId="2" pageNumber="173">brunnipennis</emphasis>
(indicata da Stephens nel 1839), con le fasce laterali del pronoto rosso-ferruginee, interrotte verso la metà (

). Generalmente la lunghezza dellinsetto adulto varia da

. La specie è presente dalla Siberia fino allEuropa meridionale (
