Cells are strictly aerobic, Gram-stain-negative, nonmotile, rod-shaped, approximately 2.33.9 µm long and 1.01.2 µm in diameter. Colonies on R2A agar are circular, smooth, pale-pink coloured and approximately 1.0 mm in diameter after 3 days at 30 °C. Growth occurs at 1030 °C (optimum, 30 °C), at pH 68 (optimum, pH 7) and in the presence of 00.5% NaCl (optimum, 0%). Catalase and oxidase activities are positive. Flexirubin-type pigments are not produced. Growth does not occur on nutrient, marine, tryptic soy and blood agars. Dextrin is hydrolysed, but CM-cellulose, DNA, starch, casein (skimmed milk) or cellulose (filter paper) are not. In the API 20NE strip, positive for aesculin hydrolysis and
