In Borneo,
<taxonomicName id="045CABFE510A49E64FBDCFC58CD3CB53" class="Insecta" family="Leiodidae" genus="Ptomaphaginus" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Ptomaphaginus" order="Coleoptera" pageId="6" pageNumber="63" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Ptomaphaginus</taxonomicName>
consists of relatively large
<taxonomicName id="8727F93826A282965776C59C5896D13C" lsidName="" pageId="6" pageNumber="63" rank="tribe" tribe="Ptomaphagini">Ptomaphagini</taxonomicName>
with four dilated male protarsomeres, distinguishable from
<taxonomicName id="08450B48D2DC444B96128B243C493792" class="Insecta" family="Leiodidae" genus="Ptomaphaminus" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Ptomaphaminus" order="Coleoptera" pageId="6" pageNumber="63" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Ptomaphaminus</taxonomicName>
by the ventral spines of the protibiae being aligned along the latero-external row of equal spines, making a second, more widely spaced row next to the external one, as well as by the metaventral sutures, which are roughly parallel to the axis of the body. Also, in the female, the gonocoxites are elongated, whereas in most

, they are reduced.

Portevin makes up the vast majority of the Borneo cholevine diversity. We currently recognise 14 species. However, more diversity is to be expected, both cryptic (e.g., DNA-analysis suggests additional diversity in
<taxonomicName id="F490F8424521C66CE5CACE077D1B397B" lsidName="P. bryanti" pageId="6" pageNumber="63" rank="species" species="bryanti">P. bryanti</taxonomicName>
and related species;
