This species is named for one of the enthusiastic supporters of this study, John Marris. He provided many valuable specimens from South Island.

). Pair of thick, dense setae on gular depression. Antennomere 1 approximately 2 times longer than wide with dull surface, 2 longer than wide, 310 subquadrate. Frontal sulcus shallow, reaching midpoint of eye. Anterior frontal fovea oval, partially covered by frontal rostrum, posterior frontal fovea oval. Eye prominent, one-half length of temple.
