. A large, orange-stramineous species with a projected head, keeled lateral carinae of the vertex and terete antennae. Calcar large, foliaceous, with greater than 25 small, black-tipped teeth on the trailing margin. Male genitalia with simple parameres, a simple decurved aedeagus, and very large curved pair of appendages on the genital diaphragm.

Parameres narrow, flattened, parallel-sided, basal angles obscure; diverging in basal two-thirds, angled dorsal in apical third, apex abruptly angled lateral; apex truncate; in lateral view somewhat dorsocaudally directed. Aedeagus simple, decurved, parallel-sided and weakly flattened, bearing small subapical lateral flanges of few teeth. Abdominal segment X quadrate, bearing short, thick sharply-pointed processes on dorsocaudal angles; widely separated at base in caudal view; segment XI subequal to height of segment X.

</taxonomicName>
have been found. Of the
<specimenCount id="9D1C70D6FFB57E77FDFE1827538DD10B" box="[518,670,1540,1565]" pageId="4" pageNumber="514" type="generic">32 specimens</specimenCount>
of this species recorded here, the sex ratio was highly biased toward females, with
<specimenCount id="9D1C70D6FFB57E77FEC4180A50AAD157" box="[316,441,1576,1601]" pageId="4" pageNumber="514" type="female">26 females</specimenCount>
and
<specimenCount id="9D1C70D6FFB57E77FE0E180A5347D157" box="[502,596,1576,1601]" pageId="4" pageNumber="514" type="male">6 males</specimenCount>
. The few specimens with reported collection methods came from lights, although some specimens collected by F. S. Blanton had debris on them suggesting they were obtained from Malaise traps. No host plants have been recorded.

A general zoogeographic pattern found in
<collectingCountry id="F30DFBCFFFB57E77FD5418B7523BD1BB" box="[684,808,1684,1709]" name="Costa Rica" pageId="4" pageNumber="514">Costa Rica</collectingCountry>
has been that different, but closely related, species are found among the Pacific tropical dry forest (lowland) region, the higher elevations (especially the Talamanca Mountains), and the Atlantic lowlands. We considered this pattern, but available evidence suggests a single species. However, the available evidence is limited because all the specimens from Guanacaste and Alajuela provinces,
<collectingCountry id="F30DFBCFFFB57E77FF6F19075003D02B" box="[151,272,1828,1853]" name="Costa Rica" pageId="4" pageNumber="514">Costa Rica</collectingCountry>
(in the northwest), were female, as were available specimens from
<collectingCountry id="F30DFBCFFFB57E77FBF81907554FD02A" box="[1024,1116,1829,1852]" name="Panama" pageId="4" pageNumber="514">Panama</collectingCountry>
. The genitalia of the
<specimenCount id="9D1C70D6FFB57E77FABE1906548FD02B" box="[1350,1436,1828,1853]" pageId="4" pageNumber="514" type="male">6 males</specimenCount>
(from Limon, Puntarenas, and Heredia provinces,
<collectingCountry id="F30DFBCFFFB57E77FD30196B5257D077" box="[712,836,1864,1889]" name="Costa Rica" pageId="4" pageNumber="514">Costa Rica</collectingCountry>
) were similar. The most notable differences were that the
<typeStatus id="54A105FDFFB57E77FF38194E5031D093" box="[192,290,1900,1925]" pageId="4" pageNumber="514" type="holotype">holotype</typeStatus>
(from Puntarenas,
<quantity id="4CE216BAFFB57E77FE00194E5343D093" box="[504,592,1900,1925]" metricMagnitude="3" metricUnit="m" metricValue="1.67" pageId="4" pageNumber="514" unit="m" value="1670.0">1670 m</quantity>
), had a more pointed aedeagus and longer processes on segment X than the specimen illustrated (Heredia, ~

). Also, DNA barcodes show that the

has less than 1% difference from a specimen from Limon (
<quantity id="4CE216BAFFB57E77FE0819975339D0DA" box="[496,554,1973,1997]" metricMagnitude="1" metricUnit="m" metricValue="1.0" pageId="4" pageNumber="514" unit="m" value="10.0">10 m</quantity>
elevation).
