The type locality, Grenlækur, is a small spring-fed stream in southern
<collectingCountry id="D93F2E100714E6E087D5AF47BB44465C" name="Iceland">Iceland</collectingCountry>
. The stream has a slightly alkaline pH (7.8), a rather low conductivity (156 µS / cm), low nitrate (
<quantity id="664EFEF6A05A52012081CC62295C78F9" metricMagnitude="-8" metricUnit="kg" metricValue="2.0" unit="mg" value="0.02">0.02 mg</quantity>
/ l) and phosphate (
<quantity id="E69F8C895E7C0483A8971B4A796FE3C1" metricMagnitude="-7" metricUnit="kg" metricValue="9.7" unit="mg" value="0.97">0.97 mg</quantity>
/ l), and moderate sulphate (
