Perennial herbs, stolon bearing. Culm up to 2 m high, acutely 3-angled, smooth or scabrid. Leaves linear, 8-19 mm wide, margin entire to scabrid. Involucral bracts leaf-like exceeding inflorescence to 60 cm. Inflorescence in terminal anthela bearing many spikelets. Spikelets ovoid-ellipsoid, 2-4
