<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Dytiscidae" genus="Ilybius" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Ilybius discedens" order="Coleoptera" pageId="10" pageNumber="113" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="discedens">Ilybius discedens</taxonomicName>
is one of the most characteristic water beetle species of boreal peatland generally occurring in small, moss-ringed pools, often where the water is cold to the touch (

). In Prince Edward Island, the majority of specimens were collected from
<taxonomicName class="Sphagnopsida" family="Sphagnaceae" genus="Sphagnum" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Plantae" lsidName="Sphagnum" order="Sphagnales" pageId="10" pageNumber="113" phylum="Bryophyta" rank="genus">Sphagnum</taxonomicName>
bogs, although a few specimens were associated with eutrophic lotic habitats (Table 1).
