The new species is named in honor of Prof. Maury Pinto de Oliveira (
<date id="FFA5104A2512FFAD864AFA4CFB16E873" box="[1113,1246,1521,1547]" pageId="1" pageNumber="343" value="1914" valueMax="2004">19142004</date>
). He was a major Brazilian malacologist of the last century, building a large collection of mollusks and shells from
<collectingCountry id="F30C761A2512FFAD86E8F9A8FAF7E857" box="[1275,1343,1557,1583]" name="Brazil" pageId="1" pageNumber="343">Brazil</collectingCountry>
and the world. His collection is housed in the Museum of Malacology “Prof. Maury Pinto de Oliveira” at the “Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF)”, Southeast

. In 2002, Professor Maury (88 years old) first introduced the senior author (then 12 years old) to the study of

. Interestingly, beetles were the first interest of Prof. Maury, who lost that focus when his entomological collection was seriously damaged due to the use of non-entomological pins. Nevertheless, throughout his life he built an important library, including many books on
