, Santiago­Morona. At that time, very few Ecuadorian specimens were known. Since then, we have examined a total of 30 Ecuadorian individuals (including relevant

), 24 of them referable to ssp.
<emphasis id="16E305057476F422CC15A7A1601CF9F4" box="[533,593,1521,1546]" italics="true" pageId="12" pageNumber="13">palla</emphasis>
. That material has allowed us to determine that ssp.
<emphasis id="16E305057476F422CAD1A7A16740F9F4" box="[1233,1293,1521,1546]" italics="true" pageId="12" pageNumber="13">palla</emphasis>
is characterized by a dark pattern which varies clinally in intensity from north to south, darker specimens occurring at the southern limit of its distribution, where they match the phenotype described as ssp.

. Thus, we regard
