). The fruit wall is thin and typically almost entirely lost by abrasion. The seeds are anatropous, and bitegmic with a thick mesotestal-endotestal seed coat. The micropyle is formed from the inner integument and the micropylar region is seen on the seed surface as a transverse slit in the testa (

Affinity and other occurrences. Fruits and seeds assigned to the extinct genus
<emphasis id="B920EAF6FFE4FFF7FB58FD63C640FD12" box="[1255,1336,668,692]" italics="true" pageId="25" pageNumber="366">Serialis</emphasis>
are among the most diverse fossils in Early Cretaceous mesofossil floras from
<collectingCountry id="F3437674FFE4FFF7FC07FD22C76AFD53" box="[952,1042,733,757]" name="Portugal" pageId="25" pageNumber="366">Portugal</collectingCountry>
and nine different species have been recognized (

). Phylogenetic analysis indicates a close relationship of

, but the genus cannot be placed confidently in any extant taxon within the order. The
