). Unlike most of the males examined here, the

illustrated in

(1999: Fig. 542) seems to lack any modifications of the male abdominal sternites III and IV

; moreover,

(1999) indicates that the body is &quot;jaune rougeâtre, avec une large bande abdominale brune&quot;, where as the present material is of dark brown to blackish coloration. On the other hand, the primary sexual characters, including the highly distinctive spermatheca (see
<collectionCode id="3FFAFEA8286DFFF7FD5241C6C1E81365" box="[704,758,765,786]" pageId="4">PACE</collectionCode>
(1999: Fig. 543)) are identical. Also, the length and shape of the lateral processes of sternite III and IV are subject to pronounced intraspecific variation; in the smallest of the
<specimenCount id="4FEDADE4286DFFF7FC8D400CC09C133A" box="[799,898,823,845]" count="6" pageId="4" type="male">six males</specimenCount>
examined, they are almost completely reduced. Thus, the evidence suggests that the
<typeStatus id="8650D8CF286DFFF7FC13406FC0C4131D" box="[897,986,852,874]" pageId="4" type="holotype">holotype</typeStatus>
is probably a very small teneral male. The processes of a larger male are illustrated in

The species is currently known only from the Andohahela range in the Fort Dauphin region, southeastern

). The specimens listed above were collected from inflorescences of
