Baumann &amp; al. (1989: 527) designated the illustration of

in Tabernaemontanus (1590: 667) as the lectotype of

. This illustration was not directly cited in the protologue of this name (Linnaeus, 1753) but in the monograph (Linnaeus, 1744) where the original diagnosis was first published. As discussed above, the illustration is associated with the protologue and may be considered for lectotypification. Cribb &amp; Wood (Cafferty &amp; Jarvis, 1999: 48) superseded this typification solely because it was not cited in the protologue; this conclusion is incorrect under the definition of original material (Art. 9.3). Nevertheless, the type change is acceptable because the illustration in Tabernaemontanus is in striking conflict with the diagnostic characters of the validating description. In particular, the protologue reads “labium [lobo] medio brevius”, whereas the illustration shows the tripartite lip with a median lobe conspicuously longer than the lateral ones. For this reason this lectotype should be treated as neotype and may be superseded under Art. 9.19(a). The illustration in Vaillant (1727) designated by Cribb &amp; Wood (
