diapophysis is

backwards just below

posterior zygapophysis, inclosing
<emphasis bold="true" box="[731,780,877,895]" pageId="18" pageNumber="358">with</emphasis>
it a notch into which the anterior zygapophysis is
<emphasis bold="true" box="[614,709,909,928]" pageId="18" pageNumber="358">received</emphasis>
. Anterior zygapophyses connected by a prolongation of the neural arch.

I had suspected

this vertebra might be one of those

the cervical region of a species of
<taxonomicName authorityName="Cope ED" authorityYear="1876" baseAuthorityName="Cope" box="[518,676,1007,1032]" class="Amphibia" family="Scapherpetontidae" genus="Scapherpeton" higherTaxonomySource="GBIF" kingdom="Animalia" order="Caudata" pageId="18" pageNumber="358" phylum="Chordata" rank="genus">
<emphasis box="[518,676,1007,1032]" italics="true" pageId="18" pageNumber="358">Scapherpeton</emphasis>
</taxonomicName>
, hut the position
<emphasis bold="true" box="[897,921,1008,1027]" pageId="18" pageNumber="358">of</emphasis>
the foramen chordae dorsalis renders this highly improbable. The only position to which it could he assigned in
<emphasis bold="true" box="[701,736,1072,1092]" pageId="18" pageNumber="358">the</emphasis>
column of this genus
<emphasis bold="true" box="[219,289,1104,1123]" pageId="18" pageNumber="358">would</emphasis>
be that of the axis. But the foramen is present in the
<emphasis box="[189,294,1137,1162]" italics="true" pageId="18" pageNumber="358">posterior</emphasis>
half of the atlas and thus probably in the axis in

, as in vertebrae from all other regions of the
<emphasis bold="true" box="[827,909,1170,1189]" pageId="18" pageNumber="358">column</emphasis>
, so that such
<emphasis box="[302,328,1208,1221]" italics="true" pageId="18" pageNumber="358">an</emphasis>
exception
<emphasis box="[461,484,1208,1221]" italics="true" pageId="18" pageNumber="358">as</emphasis>
is presented by the present centrum
<emphasis box="[141,159,1236,1255]" italics="true" pageId="18" pageNumber="358">is</emphasis>
not to be locked for.

absence of

carina, and the cylindric form of the
