Etymology: It is a pleasure to dedicate this new species to the late Brian R. Stuckenberg who was an indefatigable student of Afrotropical

. Brian not only conducted excellent research himself on the taxonomy of 
<taxonomicName baseAuthorityName="McAlpine" baseAuthorityYear="1981" box="[624,707,624,650]" class="Magnoliopsida" higherTaxonomySource="GBIF" kingdom="Plantae" order="Diptera" pageId="4" pageNumber="235" phylum="Tracheophyta" rank="order">Diptera</taxonomicName>
from the Afrotropics and elsewhere, but he also very actively promoted study of this diverse fauna, and we were often the direct recipients of his encouragement and enthusiasm.
