Calyptra straight and eccentric, 9.7–12.3 µm long, positioned at right to strongly oblique angle with the pervalvar axis. Calyptra in variable position to the frustules, it may be on the same or opposite side in relation to the pervalvar axis. Calyptra ornamented by irregular rib-like structures that extend from base until the median portion of this valve projection. Tip of spine-like extension with two small teeth and a central ligula.
