Head-body 120-170 mm, tail 144-180 mm, ear 17-20 mm, hindfoot 23-30 mm; weight 48-120 g. The Mamore Arboreal Rice Rat is characterized by large size, relatively long tail, and moderately long pelage (7-9 mm). Dorsum is generally medium buffy brown, dominated by gray hues in some specimens that range from gray to grayish buff; venter appears dull white from chin to inguinal areas in most specimens, although some have encroachment of gray-based hairs over mid-abdomen. Dorsal and ventral pelage tendsto be sharply demarcated, in most specimens accentuated by buff to bright ocherous lateral strip that demarcates upperparts from underparts. Tail is 115-118% of head-body length and brown to dusky brown for most ofits length; proximal section is slightly paler beneath; and short caudal hairs weakly obscure scale rows, without expression of terminal pencil.
