Head-body 60-74 mm (tailless), ear 16-21 mm, hindfoot 10-15 mm, forearm 40-48 mm; weight 19-30 g. The Shadowy Broad-nosed Bat is medium-sized, similar in size to the White-lined Broad-nosed Bat (
<taxonomicName box="[2322,2464,636,669]" class="Insecta" family="Anthribidae" genus="Platyrrhinus" kingdom="Animalia" order="Coleoptera" pageId="84" pageNumber="568" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="lineatus">P. lineatus</taxonomicName>
), and slightly smaller than the Quechuan Broad-nosed Bat (

). Dorsal and ventral fur is pale brown to blackish. Dorsal hairs are long (greater than

), and dorsal and ventral hairs are tricolored. Head is delicate, snout is short and broad, and facial stripes are well marked but dusky. Dorsal stripe is conspicuous but narrow. Folds on ears are well marked. Insertion of posterior edge of plagiopatagium occurs on first metatarsal, and third metacarpal is shorter than fifth. Proximal one-half of forearm is covered with long hairs. Caudal membrane is very short in middle (2-3 mm), and distal margin is U-shaped, with a dense fringe of long buffy hairs. Dense and long hair occurs on dorsum of feet. I' are unilobed, converging, in contact at tips, and twice as long as I&gt;. P* has two stylar cusps on its posterior face. M' metastyle is present, but lacking parastyle and possessing moderately to well-developed protocone; lingual face of M? lacks stylar cuspules. Anterior and posterior cristids of P, lack stylid cuspulids. Chromosomal complement has 2n = 30 and FN = 56. X-chromosomeis subtelocentric, and Y-chromosome is acrocentric.
