without eyes or eyestalks. Coxae with elongate lateral spines. Antennula article 1 elongate, inflated at base. Mandible without palp, molar clubshaped, apically cleft, apices pointed. Male pleopod 1 straight, distally tapering. Uropods distodorsally on pleotelson.

The genus name is derived from the Greek xenos, meaning stranger with the diminutive ending ella, thus the little stranger.
