This monotypic genus is the sister group of

, with four shared synapomorphies. I decided not to group the
<emphasis id="B914EAB6B7343721FD2D9740FC9C2E4D" box="[705,881,1121,1146]" italics="true" pageId="15" pageNumber="16">Spinolafoenus</emphasis>
+
<emphasis id="B914EAB6B7343721FC789740FBBE2E4D" box="[916,1107,1121,1146]" italics="true" pageId="15" pageNumber="16">Trilobitofoenus</emphasis>
clade into a unique genus because of the six synapomorphies exclusively shared by the
<emphasis id="B914EAB6B7343721FC8097A6FBF22E97" box="[876,1055,1159,1184]" italics="true" pageId="15" pageNumber="16">Trilobitofoenus</emphasis>
species. The autapomorphies of
<emphasis id="B914EAB6B7343721FF7B978FFEAC2EF0" box="[151,321,1198,1223]" italics="true" pageId="15" pageNumber="16">Spinolafoenus</emphasis>
are the crenulate occipital margin, the truncate mesonotum, and the entirely light ovipositor sheath. These autapomorphies are not exclusive of
<emphasis id="B914EAB6B7343721FCEE97F5FC412EDA" box="[770,940,1236,1261]" italics="true" pageId="15" pageNumber="16">Spinolafoenus</emphasis>
. However, the genus has other exclusive characters in Gasteruptiinae that were not used in the cladistic analysis: mesosoma uniformly areolate; metacoxa areolate at posterior portion; and longitudinal axis of propodeum slightly concave. The
<emphasis id="B914EAB6B7343721FF7B9668FED02F55" box="[151,317,1353,1378]" italics="true" pageId="15" pageNumber="16">Spinolafoenus</emphasis>
isolation was probably the result of the Andes formation.
