<paragraph id="8B8936A3FFF3471FFF7DF905FE37F891" blockId="55.[242,1474,1757,1850]" pageId="55" pageNumber="154">DESCRIPTION. — Derm black or piceous, legs (incl. tarsi) and funicle usually a little reddish. Scales dull, grey, absent on apical part of rostrum, on tarsi and funicle, pitted, somewhat asperate particularly on sides of elytra; setae white, for most part recumbent.</paragraph>
<paragraph id="8B8936A3FFFC4710FF7DFED2FC55FECC" blockId="56.[212,1444,266,463]" pageId="56" pageNumber="155">Transverse sulcus at base of rostrum usually rather distinct also on middle beside fovea of forehead. Elytra, in male, transversely convex on basal one-third of dorsum, then gradually flattened or impressed towards top of declivity; apex in female, in lateral view, only slightly curved downwards.</paragraph>

REMARKS. — Widespread species occuring from Banks Is. in the north to Tanna in the south, with variants, as usual, when species are found on a wider geographical range in

. On average a bit smaller than the other two species. Most dissected specimens had the entire ovipositor introverted inside the vagina, consequently hemisternites and styli ending up facing cephalad inside the vagina with the blade of sternite 8 also introverted at posterior end of vagina.
