The retention of a well-developed hypocostal carina is unique among Australian dysmorphoptilids and is considered plesiomorphic for the family (Dmitry Shcherbakov, pers com.). The peculiar tegmen shape and surface sculpture, and the branching pattern of M (M1+2 simple, M3+ 4 forked) are considered as the apomorphies for the genus. It is similar to
