This is a common water snake, easily found at night in almost all creeks around Canaracuni. It is also a common species in all lowlands (savanna and rainforest) in
<collectingCountry id="7DE94697FFF24263FCA5FDEED8B0FDB3" box="[871,995,536,562]" name="Venezuela" pageId="49" pageNumber="50">Venezuela</collectingCountry>
. Juveniles had a red venter, which is most often observed in southern Orinoco animals. It is known as mokóroho among the Ye’kwana and believed to be venomous.
