This species was for a long time apparently only known from the original

series of eight males and females from southern

, collected in the environs of Loja at

. Only a few years ago the Italian colleagues discovered on their expeditions an abundant population near Catamayo, air-line distance about

was created, to separate this species from

</taxonomicName>
, a mostly Mexican genus, whose species typically do not occur further south. The separation is based on morphology of the pronotum, male cerci, titillators, and female subgenital plate. The pronotum disk is not restricted in the middle in contrast to the two previous genera, and the lateral lobes are perpendicular. Tegmina are of roughly the same length as the pronotum.
