Currently, 32 species are listed in this genus, all from the Oriental region apart from one described from
<collectingCountry id="08AB7676FFBA7670FAF0FDC2FACC6FA2" box="[1319,1389,617,641]" name="Sudan" pageId="31" pageNumber="32">Sudan</collectingCountry>
and another from
<collectingCountry id="08AB7676FFBA7670FEF8FD26FED66F86" box="[303,375,653,677]" name="Brazil" pageId="31" pageNumber="32">Brazil</collectingCountry>
. These thrips all breed on the young leaves of grasses, and their feeding can cause visible damage. Three species are here recorded from
<collectingCountry id="08AB7676FFBA7670FDA3FD1AFD7C6FEA" box="[628,733,689,713]" name="Australia" pageId="31" pageNumber="32">Australia</collectingCountry>
, all from the northern half of the continent. One of these is the oriental Rice Thrips, a second is another Asian species that is here interpreted as also having been introduced to the Neotropics, and the third is a new species described below.

. However, there is possibly further synonymy to be recognised within the genus; for example, the

and one
