Of the two species recognised in this genus, only

is known from

. This species probably originated on the western coast of North

, but is now widespread round the coastal regions of South
<collectingCountry id="08AB7676FFAE7664FAC8F96FFADE6BFF" box="[1311,1407,1732,1756]" name="United States of America" pageId="11" pageNumber="12">America</collectingCountry>
to the
<collectingCountry id="08AB7676FFAE7664FF14F94CFEDF6BDC" box="[195,382,1767,1791]" name="Falkland Islands" pageId="11" pageNumber="12">Falkland Islands</collectingCountry>
and across the southern ocean to
<collectingCountry id="08AB7676FFAE7664FCDBF94CFCD26BDC" box="[780,883,1767,1791]" name="Australia" pageId="11" pageNumber="12">Australia</collectingCountry>
and

. This dispersal was probably effected by the whaling industry. Although commonly taken from the leaves of grasses,
