In Europe, adults of this adventive species occur in wet habitats, marshes, swamps, margins of streams and ponds, and swampy meadows; it is found in similar habitats in North America (

). In New Brunswick, most adults were found along lake, pond, brook, and river margins, usually in leaf litter or drift material. Others were found in an eastern white cedar swamp in moist sphagnum, in a dried vernal pond in sphagnum and leaf litter.
