REMARKS: This species was long considered a subspecies or synonym of

(e.g., by Gardner and Creighton, 2008a). Diagnostic morphological characters, taxonomic comparisons, and phylogenetic relationships were discussed by Voss and Giarla (2021). As currently recognized, this species contains at least two cytochrome
<emphasis box="[822,835,1085,1109]" italics="true" pageId="17" pageNumber="17">b</emphasis>
haplogroups that might represent distinct taxa (Voss et al., 2020), but too few specimens are available to assess the constancy of observed phenotypic differences.
