en particulier, on a pu remarquer que les modifications climatiques, sur des intervalles de temps relativement brefs, entraînaient des variations morphologiques, manifestations de la biodiversité à léchelle du temps. Ces variations sont-elles significatives dune différence? Elles le sont pour chaque variable, notamment pour la longueur relative de lépine postérieure et sa courbure et aussi pour la surface totale de la coquille. Cependant, globalement, il y a peu de différence morphologique significative entre les spécimens ligures actuels et fossiles datant au maximum de 2 000 ans, à lexception des deux morphes que nous venons de décrire. Néanmoins, il est vraisemblable que la plupart des taxons récoltés à ces niveaux représentent des paléoespèces post-glaciaires.

En effet, il est intéressant de signaler aussi que le polymorphisme de

saccompagne dune hétérogénéité écologique remarquable. En Méditerranée, elle a actuellement un comportement dorganisme tempéré dont témoignent, dune part sa distribution à tendance septentrionale (elle est très rare dans le bassin oriental) et sa reproduction hivernale, dautre part ses réapparitions précoces à la fin des glaciations würmiennes du Pléistocène, remontant à 38000-12000 ans environ (

). Dans lAtlantique, en revanche, elle adopte une répartition despèce thermophile. Il semble donc que lespèce méditerranéenne actuelle représente une entité spécifique distincte. Elle a acquis certaines caractéristiques écologiques, peut-être héritées dancêtres post-glaciaires. Cet exemple illustre bien les différences écologiques et biologiques qui accompagnent les phénomènes de variations phénotypiques géographiques, sur lesquelles bute la notion de cosmopolitisme de lespèce.
