. Fifteen males and

were captured in Guangxi and Yunnan. This is a very small species in the
<taxonomicName id="4C064D46C434B543FD258686FE8EBCF1" authorityName="Lydekker" authorityYear="1891" class="Mammalia" family="Hipposideridae" kingdom="Animalia" order="Chiroptera" pageId="11" pageNumber="81" phylum="Chordata" rank="family">Hipposideridae</taxonomicName>
that calls at a high frequency (FMAXE — 155.5163.5 kHz). The small size, echolocation call frequency, and shape of the internarial septum (in comparison with bats from
<collectingCountry id="F3117655C434B543FE7B851EFDE5BF1F" box="[494,610,1553,1579]" name="Myanmar" pageId="11" pageNumber="81">Myanmar</collectingCountry>
) fits descriptions of this species in
<collectingCountry id="F3117655C434B543FE3E853DFD98BF78" box="[427,543,1586,1612]" name="Myanmar" pageId="11" pageNumber="81">Myanmar</collectingCountry>
,
<collectingCountry id="F3117655C434B543FDBF853DFD15BF78" box="[554,658,1586,1612]" name="Thailand" pageId="11" pageNumber="81">Thailand</collectingCountry>
and elsewhere in south-east Asia (Francis, 2008; S. Puechmaille, personal communication). There are apparently two forms (probably cryptic species) of
<taxonomicName id="4C064D46C434B543FD2A8597FE8EBFE0" authorityName="Blyth" authorityYear="1853" class="Mammalia" family="Hipposideridae" genus="Hipposideros" kingdom="Animalia" order="Chiroptera" pageId="11" pageNumber="81" phylum="Chordata" rank="species" species="cineraceus">
<emphasis id="B972EAD7C434B543FD2A8597FE8EBFE0" italics="true" pageId="11" pageNumber="81">H. cineraceus</emphasis>
</taxonomicName>
in south-east Asia, and the bats from
<collectingCountry id="F3117655C434B543FD2885B5FC84BFE0" box="[701,771,1722,1748]" name="China" pageId="11" pageNumber="81">China</collectingCountry>
fit the description of the widespread, smaller form (Francis, 2008). In Ningming County,
<collectingRegion id="49C2F827C434B543FDC685F2FD3EBE23" box="[595,697,1789,1815]" country="China" name="Guangxi" pageId="11" pageNumber="81">Guangxi</collectingRegion>
, about 60 bats of this species were found roosting alone in a cave near some villages. The bats in this cave called with FMAXE values close to 156 kHz. In Yuanjiang and Baoshan counties,

, this species roosts with

These are the first records for

. All of these captured bats were found in small populations. The bats were captured in caves, and in a shelter (Fangkong Cave 1) around an abandoned airport.
