Remarks: This species is closely related to and difficult to distinguish from

). We made the distinction between the two species on the basis that colonies of
<emphasis box="[277,431,767,794]" italics="true" pageId="20" pageNumber="827">A. hemprichii</emphasis>
were sturdier and more sprawling than those of
<emphasis box="[987,1104,768,794]" italics="true" pageId="20" pageNumber="827">A. austera</emphasis>
observed at Vamizi Island. The branches were also more twisted with less exsert axial corallites and shorter, rounder radial corallites.
