Head wider than long. Antennae usually 9-segmented, sometimes 8-segmented. Sense cones on segments III and IV usually forked, rarely simple. Head not elongate in front of eyes, ocelli developed. Three pairs of ocellar setae present. Mouth-cone normal. Body setae lighter. Pronotum with or without one pair of long posteroangular setae. Mesosternum with or without spinula, metasternum without. Forewing properly long, with clear veins. Abdominal tergites IVVIII without microtrichia, abdominal tergites and sternites without craspedum, sternites without discal setae, tergite VIII with or without posteromarginal comb, tergites X with round apex. Male usually with special processes on tergite IX, sternites IIIVII with or without pore plates.
